Homebridge, a widely used software solution for integrating non-HomeKit devices such as Ring cameras into Apple Home, has officially launched Homebridge 2.0 on May 4.
The update introduces initial support for the Matter smart home standard, enabling Homebridge to function as both a HomeKit bridge and a Matter bridge. This allows Matter-compatible devices to appear directly in Apple Home through Homebridge.
Key Features of Homebridge 2.0
- Matter Support: Homebridge now acts as a bridge for Matter devices, expanding compatibility with smart home ecosystems.
- Enhanced Integration: Non-HomeKit devices, including popular brands like Ring, can now connect seamlessly to Apple Home.
- Beta to Stable: After over three years in beta, Homebridge 2.0 transitions to a stable release.
"The update brings the initial groundwork for Matter support," stated NorthernMan5, a core maintainer on GitHub and contributor to the r/homebridge subreddit.
