NBC's 2026-27 Fall TV Lineup Prioritizes 'The Traitors' and Peter Krause's Return
NBC has revealed its ambitious fall 2026 television lineup, centered around the civilian season of ‘The Traitors’ and the return of actor Peter Krause to network TV in the crime drama ‘Line of Fire’.
The civilian iteration of ‘The Traitors’ will premiere on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, directly preceding the network’s ‘Law & Order’ franchise. This scheduling marks a significant shift from the network’s traditional Thursday primetime lineup, which has historically featured crime dramas.
‘The Traitors’ Civilian Season to Kick Off Thursday Primetime
NBC’s decision to prioritize ‘The Traitors’ in the 8 p.m. hour reflects the network’s confidence in the show’s broad appeal. Jeff Bader, NBC’s president of program planning strategy, emphasized the show’s potential during a press briefing:
“It’s a hit— it would be a hit on any platform — [with] the size of the audience that it has.”
Bader noted that securing the 8 p.m. slot was a top priority, though limited openings due to sports commitments and the ‘One Chicago’ block made Thursday the ideal choice. He added:
“It will be fantastic to have a show to really jumpstart that night. ‘Traitors’ should be broad. It should be male and female. It should hit the target for us.”
The scheduling of ‘The Traitors’ ahead of ‘Law & Order: SVU’ and the flagship ‘Law & Order’ reflects NBC’s strategic planning. Lisa Katz, NBC and Peacock’s president of scripted content, explained the late renewal of the ‘Law & Order’ franchise was due to lineup adjustments to accommodate the new show:
“It was just trying to put all the pieces and figure out how many episodes and when they would come. But we’re very excited to have it back.”
Peter Krause Returns in ‘Line of Fire’; Other New Series Announced
Krause’s return to NBC comes after his eight-season run in ‘9-1-1’. His new series, ‘Line of Fire’, will premiere on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET following ‘The Voice’ at the start of the fall. The show’s time slot will transition from a two-hour block to a one-hour format by November, aligning with the return of comedies ‘St. Denis Medical’ and ‘The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins’.
Additional new series include:
- ‘Newlyweds’, a romantic comedy starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, premiering on Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET following Reba’s ‘Happy’s Place’.
- ‘Rockford Files’ and ‘Sunset P.I.’, which will debut in midseason.
NBC greenlit four of the eight pilots ordered this season, spacing out the debuts of its new series. Bader highlighted the network’s strategic approach to scheduling:
“We have a very tight schedule, and we had very specific time periods that we were addressing with our schedule. It was fantastic this year to actually have pilots to look at and have choices for these time periods and … we ended up picking the shows that we thought would resonate best in those time periods that we have available.”
Katz acknowledged the difficulty in selecting only four pilots to move forward, noting that Universal TV, which produced all the pilots, is exploring opportunities to find homes for the remaining projects elsewhere.
NBC’s Strategic Shift for Fall 2026
The fall 2026 lineup reflects NBC’s commitment to diversifying its primetime offerings with a mix of reality competition, crime dramas, and comedies. The inclusion of ‘The Traitors’ and Krause’s ‘Line of Fire’ underscores the network’s confidence in both established and returning talent to drive viewership.
