Apple has named John Ternus, the company’s current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, as its next CEO. The transition will take place in September, following the departure of Tim Cook, who will step down from his role after nearly 13 years at the helm.

“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company.”

Cook’s tenure saw Apple expand beyond its core hardware business, launching groundbreaking products like AirPods, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. He also spearheaded the company’s shift toward services, introducing Apple TV, Apple Music, and multiple subscription services.

Under Cook’s leadership, Apple became one of the world’s most valuable companies, with a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion at its peak. His successor, Ternus, joined Apple in 2001 and has held key engineering roles, including Vice President of Hardware Engineering since 2013. In 2021, he was promoted to a senior executive position. Ternus has been prominently featured in recent product launches, such as the MacBook Neo, signaling his growing influence within the company.

Cook will transition to a new role as Executive Chairman of Apple’s Board of Directors, ensuring continuity in leadership.
