Isiah Pacheco, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning running back, is known for his relentless, aggressive running style—often described as a player who attacks the ground with intensity. After his rookie contract expired, Pacheco signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions in free agency, positioning him behind Jahmyr Gibbs in the team’s backfield. His arrival effectively replaces David Montgomery, who was traded to the Houston Texans earlier this offseason.
Given Detroit’s commitment to a run-heavy offense, Pacheco is expected to play a key role in the Lions’ plans for the 2026 season.
Holmes and Campbell’s Long-Standing Admiration for Pacheco
In a recent interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Lions General Manager Brad Holmes revealed that he and head coach Dan Campbell have long been fans of Pacheco, emphasizing his mindset and approach to running the ball.
“Getting Pacheco, me and Dan have always been big fans of Pacheco. It’s his mindset and his intent in how he runs. As you know, it’s hard to get yards in this league, and those holes close up quick. And so, if you have the right mindset, you can get a lot of hidden yards — if you just have a little bit more desire.
So, I think he’s going to be a really good complement. Always been a fan from afar, just love how he runs [since] he’s been in the league. And we don’t expect anything different to being a really good complement to Jahmyr.”
Pacheco’s Recent Performance and Injury History
Pacheco has faced injury challenges over the past two seasons, appearing in just 20 games during that span. In 2025, he recorded 462 rushing yards, one touchdown, 19 receptions for 101 receiving yards, and no receiving touchdowns.
His most productive season came in 2023, when he rushed for 935 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 44 receptions for 224 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
