Garrett Nussmeier’s wait to hear his name called in the 2024 NFL Draft lasted far longer than he anticipated. Nine quarterbacks were selected before the LSU signal-caller, but the Kansas City Chiefs ultimately ended his slide in the seventh round, making him the 249th overall pick.
Nussmeier’s emotional reaction was captured as he put on the Chiefs’ cap and celebrated with his family, including his father, Doug Nussmeier, the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.
His arrival in Kansas City adds to a crowded quarterback room that already includes Patrick Mahomes, Justin Fields, Chris Oladokun, and Jake Haener.

Over five seasons in Baton Rouge, Nussmeier started 23 games, compiling a record of 15-8. His collegiate resume includes:
