Diego Luna is set to join Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled, stepping into a newly created role as the project prepares to begin filming in Spain this June.
The film is a live-action retelling of Disney’s 2010 Academy Award-nominated animated movie, which marked a creative resurgence for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The original Tangled grossed nearly $600 million worldwide.

Character details for Luna’s role remain under wraps. Previously announced cast members include:
- Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, the long-haired princess with healing powers.
- Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, the charming thief who helps Rapunzel escape her tower.
- Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, the villainous guardian who holds Rapunzel captive.
Behind the Scenes: Director and Production Details
Michael Gracey, known for directing The Greatest Showman and Better Man, will helm the live-action Tangled. The screenplay is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
The original animated Tangled, released in 2010, was directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno. The film’s success helped revitalize Disney’s animation division and remains a fan favorite.
