Framework, the company behind the world’s first laptop with easily swappable internal GPUs, is now venturing into external graphics processing. Following its promise made in August 2023, Framework will enable users to transform the Framework Laptop 16’s GPU modules into external graphics units.

Alternatively, the new system supports the connection of full desktop graphics cards—or even other PCIe cards like network adapters—delivering performance levels typically reserved for desktop PCs. The external setup leverages eight lanes of PCI-Express bandwidth for high-speed data transfer.

The company has named this innovation the OCuLink Dev Kit, as it utilizes the OCuLink standard to facilitate communication between the laptop’s CPU and the external GPU. Additional details about the kit, including pricing and availability, are expected to be announced soon.
