Veteran driver Katherine Legge is set to take on one of motorsport’s most grueling challenges: “The Double.”
Over Memorial Day Weekend, Legge will compete in the 110th Indianapolis 500, driving the No. 11 e.l.f. Cosmetics Chevrolet for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing. Hours later, she will travel to Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete in the Coca-Cola 600, piloting the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports.
Legge’s attempt marks a historic milestone—she will be the first woman to tackle this demanding feat. Only five drivers have ever attempted the same-day “Double,” racing in both events on the same day:
- John Andretti
- Tony Stewart
- Robby Gordon
- Kurt Busch
- Kyle Larson (2024, 2025)
In total, 14 drivers have raced in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same season, but only those five made the attempt on the same day.
Legge brings a strong resume to this challenge. She has qualified for all four Indy 500s she has entered and, in 2023, set the record as the fastest woman to ever qualify for the historic race. Earlier this season, on May 10, 2026, she made her NASCAR Cup Series debut at Watkins Glen International.
Legge’s crew is preparing for the logistical demands of back-to-back elite races, including rapid travel between Indianapolis and Charlotte. If successful, she will join an exclusive group of drivers who have conquered this motorsport endurance test.
