Netflix has announced that the animated adaptation of the popular Devil May Cry video game series will return for a second season on May 12.

The streaming platform also released a full trailer to coincide with the announcement, following the release of a short teaser several months prior.

Dante’s Iconic Look Returns in Season 2

The new footage showcases intense action sequences, and fans of the franchise will immediately notice that protagonist Dante now closely resembles his counterpart from the games. This aligns with a statement from series creator Adi Shankar last year, when he promised that season two would feature the character "embrace more of the iconic badassery fans of the game expect."

Plot and Production Details

The animated series, like the original games, follows Dante, a half-demon demon hunter, as he battles to prevent the gates of Hell from opening.

The first season was a major success for Netflix, amassing over 5 million views within its first four days of release.

Behind the Scenes: Showrunner and Animation Studio

Adi Shankar, the showrunner, previously worked on Netflix’s acclaimed animated adaptation of Castlevania.

Animation duties for Devil May Cry are handled once again by Studio Mir, known for its high-quality work on series such as The Legend of Korra, X-Men '97, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and My Adventures with Superman.

The first season of Devil May Cry was praised for its stunning visuals, setting high expectations for the upcoming second season.
