The New York Jets announced roster adjustments on Thursday, opening three spots on their 90-man roster but waiving only two players. Defensive lineman Paschal Ekeji was designated as an international player, meaning he no longer counts against the 90-man limit. Additionally, Ekeji will have a roster exemption if he is placed on the team’s practice squad this fall.
Born in Lesotho, Ekeji initially played rugby in South Africa before transitioning to American football. The Jets also waived offensive lineman Gus Hartwig and safety Chris Smith. Hartwig spent the 2023 season on injured reserve, while Smith previously played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams before joining the Jets in December 2023.
