Carbon Brief is now accepting applications for a paid three-week summer journalism internship in London. The opportunity is open to students or recent graduates passionate about climate change and journalism.
Internship Details
This paid internship runs from 13–31 July 2024, with office hours from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The role follows a hybrid format, combining in-person work near London Bridge station with remote tasks.
Compensation
- London Living Wage: £14.80 per hour
- Travel bursary: £100 towards expenses
What You’ll Do
As an intern at Carbon Brief, you will:
- Research, write, and publish an article for Carbon Brief.
- Promote your work using visuals and social media.
- Assist with newsletters, contributing to Carbon Brief’s award-winning publications.
- Identify story ideas by analyzing scientific papers and policy documents.
- Create and discuss content for social media platforms like Twitter/X and Instagram.
What You’ll Learn
Gain hands-on experience in a small, independent, global journalism team. You will:
- Observe how Carbon Brief develops articles from start to finish.
- Learn to critically evaluate news, data, and reports.
- Develop skills in using visuals effectively in journalism.
Your Skills and Qualifications
We’re looking for candidates with:
- A strong interest in climate change.
- Experience writing about technical topics for a general audience (including self-published work).
- A commitment to journalistic integrity.
- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g., MS Word/Excel or Google Docs/Sheets).
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Experience with social media platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram) is a plus.
Reporting and Location
The internship will be supervised by Associate Editor Daisy Dunne. The role is based in central London, with hybrid working arrangements.
