The Los Angeles Rams are set to play seven prime-time games in the 2026 NFL season, but they could end up with as many as nine. The league’s evolving scheduling approach is creating additional opportunities for high-profile matchups under the lights.
In Week 17 of the 2026 season, two games will be scheduled on Saturday. NBC and Peacock will broadcast a game at 4:30 p.m. ET, while Peacock will air another at 8:00 p.m. ET. Four potential matchups have been identified as candidates to move to Saturday:
- Commanders at Jaguars
- Chiefs at Chargers
- Broncos at Patriots
- Rams at Buccaneers
Of these four, two will ultimately be selected to shift to Saturday. Given that the Rams at Buccaneers game is among the options, it is possible their matchup could be scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on that day.
Week 18 of the 2026 season presents further flexibility, as all games are eligible for prime-time selection. If the Seahawks-Rams game carries implications for the NFC West title or the No. 1 seed, it becomes a prime candidate for the season finale under the lights.
Historically, the NFL imposed limits on the number of prime-time games a team could play. Early scheduling rules even required teams to play on Thursday after a Sunday game. However, the league has since shifted toward maximizing the most compelling matchups, prioritizing quality over rigid scheduling constraints.
This approach benefits competitive teams while sending a clear message to struggling franchises: “Don’t suck.”
