The Seattle Seahawks, fresh off their Super Bowl LX victory, have narrowed down their Week 1 season-opening game options from nine to four teams.

All NFC teams are scheduled to play nine home games this season. The Seahawks are set to host the following opponents: 49ers, Rams, Cardinals, Giants, Cowboys, Chiefs, Chargers, Bears, and Patriots.

However, several matchups are already locked in:

  • The 49ers and Rams will face off in Australia on Thursday, September 10.
  • The Cowboys and Giants are scheduled for Sunday night, September 13.
  • The Chiefs will host the Broncos on Monday, September 14.

This leaves only four potential road teams for the Seahawks' Week 1 opener on Wednesday, September 9: the Cardinals, Chargers, Bears, and Patriots.

Possible Super Bowl Rematch?

A Super Bowl rematch in the season opener is not without precedent. In 2016, the Panthers and Broncos played in the first game of the season following Denver's Super Bowl 50 victory. The Broncos won 21-20 after Panthers kicker Graham Gano missed a 50-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining.

Unless the NFL announces the opponent earlier, the team that will face the Seahawks in their season opener will be revealed on Thursday, September 9, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
