Subnautica 2 is set to launch in early access on May 14, 2025, for PC and Xbox Series X|S, marking the end of a prolonged legal dispute between developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment and its owner, Krafton.

The game is currently the most-wishlisted title on Steam, underscoring its anticipated release. However, its path to launch has been turbulent. Originally planned for early access in 2025, the game was publicly delayed to 2026 in July 2024 following feedback from playtests.

The delay coincided with a sudden leadership change at Unknown Worlds. In July 2024, Krafton removed the studio’s co-founders and former leaders—Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire—a move reported by Bloomberg as part of a broader restructuring effort.

The legal dispute between Unknown Worlds and Krafton has now been resolved, clearing the way for the early access launch. Subnautica 2 will allow players to explore an alien ocean world, continuing the survival and exploration themes of the original Subnautica, released in 2018.
