In the latest episode of the MAGA worldview, aging and illness are blamed on American liberals. Rudy Giuliani, former New York mayor and Trump’s personal attorney, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. His spokesperson confirmed he is in critical but stable condition.

Donald Trump, however, attributed Giuliani’s situation to the political left. In a post on Truth Social Sunday night, Trump praised Giuliani as a “true warrior” and declared him the best mayor in New York City history “BY FAR.”

“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL—AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”

Giuliani’s legacy once included being a respected figure in New York. As a U.S. attorney in the 1980s, he earned the nickname “mob-buster” for his aggressive prosecutions. After the 9/11 attacks, he was hailed as “America’s mayor” for his leadership.

His reputation declined after he aligned himself with Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential race and embraced the MAGA movement, including its conspiracy theories. Since then, Giuliani became a prominent voice for Trump’s claims, including baseless accusations against Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss following the 2020 election.

That decision led to severe consequences for Giuliani:

  • He was ordered to pay $150 million in damages to Freeman and Moss, a sum he failed to avoid.
  • He lost his Manhattan penthouse, a Mercedes convertible, and nearly his Florida condominium.
  • He was indicted in Georgia and Arizona for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. He was later pardoned in Georgia.
  • In 2024, he filed for bankruptcy, lost his accountant due to unmanageable debts, was disbarred, and had his WABC radio show canceled for spreading election lies.
  • He also sought Trump’s help to cover his seven-figure legal fees, but reports indicate Trump refused.

In an attempt to generate income, Giuliani launched a coffee brand, “Rudy Coffee,” but ultimately lost his bankruptcy case due to excessive spending. The presiding judge in New York described him as a “recalcitrant debtor.”

Despite his legal and financial struggles, Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, framed him as a resilient figure:

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same strength now. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”
