Unitree, a leading name in the humanoid robotics industry, is expanding into niche sci-fi technology with the debut of its latest innovation: the GD01. Marketed as the world's first production-ready manned mecha, this massive robotic suit is now available for purchase at a price of $650,000.
The GD01 represents a bold step into the realm of giant mech suits, a concept previously confined to science fiction. While Unitree has not explicitly detailed its intended functionality, the company’s introductory video on YouTube offers some insight into its capabilities. The footage showcases the GD01 knocking over a wall of cinderblocks and seamlessly transitioning between a bipedal stance and other configurations.
The bipedal mode of the GD01 has drawn comparisons to the iconic Power Loader exoskeleton piloted by Ellen Ripley in the film Aliens.
