In a blockbuster deal that could reshape the zoo league standings, the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium and Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo have agreed to a deadline trade: Frankie for Little Joe, straight up.
According to insider Apedam Schefter:
- Frankie, Pittsburgh’s 7-year-old male western lowland gorilla, will head to Boston.
- In exchange, Boston will send Little Joe, a 33-year-old silverback, to Pittsburgh.
Insider Elliotte Treedman noted that Pittsburgh has been seeking an experienced veteran to bolster its lineup. This trade is seen as a bold, win-now move for the zoo, though concerns remain about Little Joe’s long-term durability. Known league-wide as a calming presence in the locker room, Little Joe is praised for his ability to mentor younger teammates.
