Japan’s newest attraction, the Wakura Pokémon Footbath, invites visitors to relax while Gyarados spits water onto their feet. Located in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, the facility has been renovated with a Pokémon theme, offering a unique twist on traditional Japanese footbaths.

The footbath is designed around Magikarp’s final evolution, Gyarados, and includes a water cannon to spray toes during the experience. Other Pokémon featured in the facility include Poliwag, Politoed, Quaxly, Vaporeon, Psyduck, and—somewhat controversially—Pikachu.

A dedication ceremony was held to mark the footbath’s opening, with local nursery school children participating and enjoying the new attraction. According to a report by PASH! Plus, the sight of children playing in the warm, Pokémon-themed water symbolized a bright future for the community.

Pokémon’s Cultural Impact in Japan

Footbaths are a cultural staple in Japan, and the Pokémon-themed version aligns with the country’s love for the franchise. While an official Pokémon theme park recently opened in Tokyo’s Yomiuri Land, the Wakura Footbath offers a more practical yet playful relaxation experience.

Despite the presence of Pikachu—a Pokémon known for its electric abilities—the Water-type Pokémon dominate the footbath’s theme, creating a fun and calming atmosphere. The facility’s design ensures a refreshing experience for those seeking a quick foot refresh.
