Honda’s refreshed City sedan has been leaked ahead of its official India debut, revealing significant design and technology updates. The fifth-generation model, introduced in 2019 and refreshed in 2023, is set to receive its second major update in 2026 to maintain competitiveness against rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and VW Virtus.
The facelift prioritizes a modernized front end, with slimmer LED headlights flanking a redesigned honeycomb-pattern grille. The chrome bar has been replaced with body-colored trim, and the Honda badge has been repositioned to the nose. The front bumper features revised intakes and a sharper splitter for a more aggressive stance. While the profile remains largely unchanged, new color options and alloy wheels are expected.
At the rear, the sedan may introduce tweaked LED taillight graphics and subtle updates to the bumper trim. The most notable upgrades are likely to be inside the cabin, where increased demand for in-car technology and comfort features could lead to a larger 8-inch infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and an enhanced Honda Sensing ADAS package.
Mechanically, the powertrain lineup is expected to remain unchanged. The 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine will continue producing 119 hp (89 kW / 121 PS) with a choice of a six-speed manual or CVT transmission. The e:HEV hybrid will also stay, offering 125 hp (93 kW / 126 PS).
The official unveiling of the 2026 Honda City is scheduled for May 22, with the outgoing model currently priced from ₹11,99,900 (approximately $12,500) in India. The hybrid variant starts at ₹19,99,900 ($20,800).
The leak was shared by journalist Akbar Merchant, who posted an uncamouflaged prototype image on X (formerly Twitter) on May 13, 2026, spoiling the upcoming debut. Based on the visible changes, a rendering was created to showcase the refreshed front end integrated with the existing silhouette.

Honda’s updated strategy highlights India, along with North America and Japan, as priority markets for its hybrid-focused expansion. The City remains a critical model for Honda in Asia, and this facelift aims to reinforce its position against strong competitors in the segment.
