Americans express growing concerns about artificial intelligence (AI), with communities resisting data center projects nationwide and social media erupting in anger toward AI companies and executives—sometimes escalating to calls for violence.

However, when examining the core issues driving election campaigns, AI appears far less prominent than other topics, experts note.

Recent polling by Ipsos reveals that more than 60% of both Republicans and Democrats agree that the government should regulate AI for economic stability and public safety, and that its development should slow down. Despite this consensus, AI remains a secondary issue in political discussions.

The findings highlight a disconnect between public sentiment and political priorities as the 2024 elections approach.
