Amazon has announced a software update for the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, introducing dark mode and additional productivity enhancements. The update addresses a long-standing omission, aligning these devices with other Kindle offerings.
Dark Mode Comes to Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe Colorsoft
The update brings dark mode to both e-readers, allowing users to toggle theme settings for specific menus. This means you can set your library to a dark theme while keeping your notebook in a light theme, or vice versa. The feature was notably absent from these devices despite being available on other Kindle models.
Smart Shapes Enhance Note-Taking on Kindle Scribe Colorsoft
In addition to dark mode, the update introduces Smart Shapes to the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft’s notebooks. Users can now add pre-drawn lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles directly from the toolbar. A new hold-to-snap tool further simplifies the process: draw a shape freehand, and the system will automatically adjust it into a clean, precise design.
These features are designed to help users add visual elements to their notes without requiring advanced design skills.
Update Availability and Future Improvements
The update is rolling out across the Kindle ecosystem over the next few days. While the enhancements improve functionality, there are still areas where the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft lags behind competitors. As noted in a review by Cherlynn Low, the device excels as an e-reader but remains limited in other aspects, leaving room for future improvements.
