AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron celebrated the announcement on May 1, 2026, that Netflix and director Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation will receive a wide theatrical release on February 12, 2027, followed by a standard 49-day exclusive window before streaming.

Aron described the discussions with Netflix as “immensely successful”, highlighting the streamer’s decision to authorize a global theatrical rollout—a first for Netflix with a major film title.

“It is a massive development that Netflix has authorized the wide release on February 12, 2027 in movie theaters globally — so very importantly with a traditional 49-day exclusive theatrical window — of acclaimed director Greta Gerwig’s newest film ‘Narnia.’”

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Aron also revealed that Narnia will feature prominent advance screenings in IMAX auditoriums, with AMC operating approximately 225 IMAX locations.

Aron emphasized the significance of Netflix’s shift toward theatrical releases, stating:

“At AMC, our cooperative efforts with Netflix picked up steam in the back half of 2025, and have been immensely successful. Both AMC in the U.S. and Odeon across Europe will throw everything we have into the mix to support Netflix on this effort. We are in their corner fully. We are and will be all in. It should not be lost on anyone the significance of Netflix trying a real global release of a major film title.”

The announcement follows recent CinemaCon discussions reported by TheWrap, where Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos engaged with theater owners about expanding the streamer’s theatrical presence. Aron’s remarks underscore Netflix’s growing collaboration with traditional cinema chains amid this strategic pivot.
