Amsterdam has implemented a ban on advertisements for both meat and fossil fuels as part of its broader strategy to address climate change. Effective since May 1, the restriction covers promotions for products and services such as burgers, gasoline-powered cars, airlines, and cruise vacations. These ads are no longer permitted on billboards, tram stops, or metro stations throughout the city.

City officials have stated that the measure is designed to support Amsterdam’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The decision reflects the municipality’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. By restricting ads that encourage high-emission activities, the city aims to shift public behavior toward more environmentally friendly choices.
