Anthropic has sparked discussion among developers following what appeared to be an unexpected update to its pricing structure. The company indicated that Claude Code, a widely used agentic development tool, would no longer be included for subscribers on the $20-per-month Pro plan.

Observant users noted on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) that Anthropic’s official pricing page for Claude explicitly listed Claude Code as unsupported under the Pro tier. The tool remained available exclusively in the $100-per-month Max plan and higher tiers. New users signing up for the Pro plan found they could no longer access Claude Code, though existing subscribers reported no disruption to their service.

As frustration and speculation grew online, Amol Avasare, Anthropic’s head of growth, addressed the situation on social media. He confirmed that the change was part of a limited test affecting approximately 2% of new prosumer signups.

In his clarification, Avasare stated:

This was a small test on ~2% of new prosumer signups.

He did not provide further details regarding the reasoning behind the test or whether it would expand to additional users.
