Apple’s next-generation Mac Studio and MacBook Pro may arrive later than planned due to a continuing global shortage of memory components. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, at least two of the company’s upcoming machines could debut later than initially anticipated.
Gurman’s report highlights that the refreshed Mac Studio, which will succeed the current M4 Max and M3 Ultra configurations, was originally expected to launch in mid-2024. However, Apple is already facing shortages of its existing Mac Studio inventory, likely driven by high demand from users running local AI models. With no immediate resolution to the shortage in sight, Gurman predicts the refreshed Mac Studio’s release could be pushed to around October 2024.
The delays are not limited to Apple’s desktop lineup. Gurman also indicated that the next MacBook Pro could face a similar postponement. While the touchscreen MacBook Pro was previously expected between late 2026 and early 2027, the refreshed model may now arrive toward the later end of that timeline.
Apple is not alone in grappling with the RAM shortage, as the issue affects consumer tech companies across the board. However, the company may offset some challenges by leveraging the success of its recent MacBook Neo release amid the broader memory crisis impacting laptop manufacturers.
