Porsche has unveiled a pair of specially wrapped Porsche 963 race cars, paying homage to the iconic 1980 Porsche 935 with bright, colorful liveries and Apple Computer branding. The tribute marks the first time Apple’s logo has appeared on a Porsche race car in 46 years.

The two Porsche 963s, operated by Porsche Penske Motorsport, will compete at this weekend’s IMSA race at Laguna Seca. The livery is a direct throwback to the 1980 Porsche 935, which featured a vibrant stripe design in green, yellow, orange, red, purple, and blue. The modern 963s retain the same color scheme, with orange replaced by a second shade of red, and the classic Apple Computer script prominently displayed on the front and side skirts.

Drivers and Championship Standings

The No. 6 car will be driven by Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, while the No. 7 car will feature Julien Andlauer and Felipe Nasr. Porsche Penske Motorsport currently leads the LMDh manufacturers’ championship, having secured victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (January) and the Twelve Hours of Sebring (March). The team also achieved a one-two finish at last year’s Laguna Seca event.

Celebrating 75 Years of Porsche Motorsport and 50 Years of Apple

“What began with the debut of the Porsche 911 at the 1963 IAA Motor Show is mirrored by Apple Computer: both are icons that stand for innovation and continuous development by experts in Zuffenhausen, Weissach, and Cupertino. This is particularly true of Porsche Motorsport, where innovations have been created since 1951 under the highest competitive demands.”

In addition to the 963s, Porsche Motorsport’s factory team will also field a 911 GT3 R in the GTD Pro class and a second 911 GT3 R in the GTD class this weekend. The GTD Pro model features a striking green-and-white dinosaur-inspired livery, nicknamed ‘Rexy.’
