The Cincinnati Bengals have bolstered their defensive line by acquiring New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence in a blockbuster pre-Draft trade. The move was finalized on Saturday, marking a significant addition to Cincinnati’s roster ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Lawrence’s departure from the Giants follows stalled contract negotiations, with the defensive tackle requesting a trade to a new team. The Bengals secured his services in exchange for the No. 10 overall pick in next week’s 2026 NFL Draft, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Giants Gain Flexibility with Two Top-10 Picks

The trade leaves the Giants with two selections inside the top ten of the upcoming draft. In addition to the No. 10 pick acquired from the Bengals, New York already holds the No. 5 overall selection. This gives the Giants significant flexibility to target premium defensive prospects, including linebacker Sonny Styles, or invest in an offensive lineman to protect quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Bengals Continue Defensive Overhaul

The acquisition of Lawrence is the latest in a series of defensive upgrades for the Bengals this offseason. Cincinnati has already added defensive end Boye Mafe, safety Bryan Cook, and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen to their roster. Lawrence’s arrival further solidifies a unit that aims to improve under new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Lawrence, a first-round pick by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft, has been a key contributor to New York’s defensive line. His move to the AFC North positions him to face off against division rivals like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns in the coming seasons.
