Brandon Aubrey has achieved his NFL goal after signing a record-breaking contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The kicker secured a four-year, $28 million extension, with $20 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player at his position.
Initially, the Cowboys planned to tender Aubrey at $5.76 million for 2026. However, Aubrey instructed his agent, Todd France, to finalize an extension "in an expedited manner."
Aubrey, 31, reflected on his journey during a Tuesday interview with Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, stating,
"I never really thought about it like that. I just wanted to fight my way on to a roster and hold on to it. . . . My goal was always just to get on an NFL roster. Then, take it kick by kick."
Since joining the Cowboys in 2023, Aubrey has been dominant. He has made 112 of 127 field goal attempts (88.2%), including 35 of 44 kicks of 50+ yards. He also shares the record for the fourth-longest field goal in NFL history at 65 yards.
His rapid rise includes three Pro Bowl selections and a transition from a prove-it spring in the UFL to NFL stardom. Aubrey spoke to ESPN’s Todd Archer about his emotions following the deal, saying,
"Man, I’ve been reflecting on it quite a bit the last 24 hours. Yeah, it’s not sunk in just yet. I do feel like a weight or stress deep down is gone. I’m able to enjoy day to day life a little more again."
