The 2026 SB Nation Community Mock Draft is underway, with the Buffalo Bills making their first selection at pick No. 28. The draft simulation, coordinated by all 32 NFL sites at SB Nation, runs up to the actual NFL Draft, scheduled for April 23–25, 2026.

Each site manager contributes a pick and provides detailed reasoning. Following their selections, further analysis and final opinions are shared to contextualize the choices.

With the 28th overall pick, Buffalo Rumblings editor Matt Byham and the Buffalo Bills selected C.J. Allen, a linebacker from the University of Georgia.

Why the Bills Chose C.J. Allen

"This is going to be a very un-sexy pick for the Bills, but when you look at the state of their linebacker room, you’ll understand. The middle of their defense lacks a ‘green dot’ player to lead the unit from the core of the unit and Allen is the consensus top player at off-ball linebacker. It just makes too much sense to grab a plug-and-play starter at this point in the first round. You can’t say that about many positions at pick 28 and the Bills do right by their team."

Analysis: A Need-Based Selection

Byham’s reasoning centers on the Bills’ defensive needs. The team currently lacks a ‘green dot’ player—a linebacker who can relay defensive signals and anchor the middle of the defense. Allen, widely regarded as the top off-ball linebacker in this mock draft class, fits that role perfectly.

The selection is framed as a practical, need-based move rather than a flashy play. With few positions offering immediate starter potential at pick 28, the Bills prioritize filling a critical gap in their lineup.
