Former NFL defensive end Josh Mauro died last month at the age of 35, authorities confirmed. The California Post reported that his death resulted from an accidental drug overdose.

Officially, the cause of death was listed as acute combined fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol intoxication.

NFL Career and Background

Mauro played college football at Stanford University from 2010 through 2013. He went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft but signed with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played for four seasons. He later played one season each for the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders before returning to Arizona for the final two seasons of his career in 2020 and 2021.

Over his career, Mauro appeared in 80 regular-season NFL games, with 40 starts.
