Los Angeles Chargers running back Keaton Mitchell is energized by the opportunity to perform under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who has a history of developing explosive offensive players. Mitchell’s optimism stems from McDaniel’s recognition of his potential during free agency this offseason.

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz, who was part of the Ravens’ front office when Mitchell signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023, played a key role in securing his transition to Los Angeles.

Mitchell’s NFL journey has included challenges, such as a torn ACL during his rookie season in 2023, which limited him to just five games in 2024. However, he returned in 2025, touching the ball 68 times across 13 appearances. While the Chargers have not yet defined his role, Mitchell remains focused on maximizing his opportunities.

“Definitely motivating to be in a room where I feel like I have a chance and a shot to do big things,” Mitchell said, via the team’s official website.

The Chargers’ backfield plans may also involve 2025 first-round pick Omarion Hampton, but Mitchell’s versatility could extend to special teams, particularly in return duties, as the team seeks to maximize his impact.
