Edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence made a bold statement last year when he left the Dallas Cowboys for the Seattle Seahawks, saying, "Dallas was my home, but I knew for sure I’m not going to win a Super Bowl there." Less than a year later, Lawrence proved his point by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after Seattle’s victory in Super Bowl LIX.
That decision—and its outcome—became a powerful recruiting tool. Dante Fowler, who played alongside Lawrence in Dallas during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, sought his advice before making his own move. Fowler is now reuniting with Lawrence as teammates on the Seahawks.
"If you want to win a Super Bowl, you should come here," Fowler said, quoting Lawrence’s advice via the team’s official website.
Fowler also has another familiar connection in Seattle: defensive coordinator Aden Durde, whom he played for in both Dallas and Atlanta. However, Lawrence’s influence appears to have been the deciding factor.
"It was amazing, just to be able to play with him for the past couple of years," Fowler said. "The legacy he left when he left was a big thing, and to see him come here and see how great he played—he was very healthy, he took this defense to another level, and he won a Super Bowl, something that he has been talking about since I met him. So it was really cool to watch him in that position."
While transitions between teams are always challenging, Fowler’s move could inspire more Cowboys players to follow Lawrence’s path to Seattle in pursuit of championship glory—especially if the Seahawks secure back-to-back titles.
