A developer has published a method to run Linux on select versions of Sony’s PlayStation 5 console, enabling users to play PC games. The installation steps were shared on GitHub this week by developer Andy Nguyen, who previously demonstrated a ported version of Ubuntu running PC games on a PS5 last month.

This is a soft mod, meaning the Linux installation does not persist between power downs or restarts. However, once active, it allows users to play PC games on the PS5 hardware. Early demonstrations include GTA V running with enhanced ray tracing at 60 frames per second and Spider-Man running at 1440p resolution and 60fps.

Nguyen is leveraging a patched vulnerability to transform the PS5 into a Linux-based system, providing a temporary but functional gaming environment.
