The Miami Dolphins have secured the future of running back De'Von Achane with a four-year contract extension. The agreement, reported by multiple outlets, ensures Achane remains with the team through five additional seasons when combined with the one year left on his rookie deal.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the base value of the extension is $64 million, with a maximum potential value of $68 million. Jordan Schultz characterizes the base deal as worth $68 million, with the discrepancy stemming from differing interpretations of the new-money average per year (APY). The APY is either $16 million or $17 million.
Regardless of the exact figure, Achane’s new-money APY places him third among NFL running backs, trailing only the Eagles’ Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) and the 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey ($19 million).
The structure and incentives of the contract will determine its long-term value, but the agreement guarantees Achane financial security and a prominent role in Miami’s offense. For running backs drafted in the early rounds, securing a second contract after three seasons is critical due to the position’s high injury risk and short shelf life.
