After months of speculation, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary announced his resignation from the role yesterday. The agency confirmed that Kyle Diamantas, the FDA’s top food regulator, will step in as acting commissioner while a permanent replacement is sought.

Matt Herper, a senior editor at STAT, offered a critical perspective on Makary’s tenure, stating in a recent column that he was “the worst FDA commissioner in 25 years.”
