Framework, known for its modular, repairable, and upgradable laptops, has sold and shipped its Laptop 13 for five years. During this period, the company has released six distinct versions of its system board, each incorporating updated Intel and AMD processors. If including the RISC-V version, the total rises to seven.

Over time, the laptop’s surrounding components have also improved. Framework has introduced higher-resolution screens in both matte and glossy finishes, a slightly larger battery, and other refinements to the original design. However, all parts remained interchangeable, and the fundamental design of the Laptop 13 has remained largely unchanged—until now.

Framework Laptop 13 Pro: A Ground-Up Redesign

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro, despite its name, is not merely an offshoot of the original Laptop 13 but a complete redesign. The new model introduces several significant updates:

  • Core Ultra Series 3 chips (codenamed Panther Lake): The first Framework laptop to feature Intel’s latest processors.
  • First-ever touchscreen: A new addition to Framework’s lineup.
  • New black aluminum color option: Expanding the available color choices.
  • Larger battery: Providing improved battery life.
  • Other significant changes: Including refinements to the overall design and components.

This redesign marks a major shift for Framework, departing from the interchangeable parts philosophy of the original Laptop 13 while introducing new materials and technologies.
