Google Chrome is enhancing its AI Mode with smarter tab integration, starting today with a rollout to users in the US. The update improves how the tool interacts with and understands browser tabs, making multi-tab browsing more intuitive.

When using AI Mode on Chrome for desktop, clicking a link now opens a new side-by-side interface. This allows users to browse the webpage while simultaneously asking AI Mode questions about the content. The chatbot maintains the context of the original search, eliminating the need to repeat details.

For example, if AI Mode helps you compare coffee makers, you can click on a model to visit the manufacturer's website and ask follow-up questions like, "How easy is this to clean?" The expanded context window ensures the chatbot understands the query without requiring the model name.

Users can also incorporate existing tabs or tab groups into new searches. From the redesigned Plus menu, select the new option to include these tabs in your AI Mode queries. Additionally, the Plus menu now supports prompting AI Mode to analyze images and PDFs alongside relevant tabs.

During testing, Google found that these integrations reduced tab switching and improved focus. Mike Torres, Vice President of Product for Chrome, emphasized that these features are part of Google's broader effort to bring practical AI capabilities to its web browser. He also confirmed that the updates will soon expand to additional regions worldwide.
