The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) marked Mother’s Day by launching Moms.gov, a federal website designed to guide new and expecting mothers toward pro-life pregnancy centers.

What Is Moms.gov?

According to an HHS press release issued on May 12, 2025, Moms.gov is intended to "offer guidance and information to support the health and well-being of mothers and their families." The website prominently features a link to Option Line, a pregnancy help contact center that encourages individuals to reconsider abortion by discussing perceived risks and emotional reassurance, including the message: "It’s OK to change your mind."

How Option Line Works

Option Line’s locator tool directs users to "participating pregnancy centers" that provide "peer counseling and accurate information about all pregnancy options." Many of these centers are classified as crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), according to the Crisis Pregnancy Center Map, a national directory managed by Drs. Andrea Swartzendruber and Danielle Lambert of the University of Georgia’s College of Public Health.

What Are Crisis Pregnancy Centers?

Crisis pregnancy centers often present themselves as legitimate reproductive health clinics but primarily aim to deter individuals from accessing abortion care and some contraceptive options, as noted by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

HHS Funding and Policy Shifts

HHS has a history of promoting crisis pregnancy centers, including direct funding of at least $34 million to 16 facilities between 2018 and 2024. In April 2025, the Trump administration proposed dismantling the Title X family planning program, shifting its focus from contraception promotion to emphasizing "optimal health (defined as physical, mental, and social wellbeing), not just medical intervention."

Statement from HHS Leadership

"Moms.gov delivers critical tools and support to help parents foster healthy pregnancies, strengthen young families, and create brighter futures for their children. This is how you Make America Healthy Again."

— HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

"As part of a pro-life, pro-family administration, HHS is committed to delivering critical tools to help parents foster healthy pregnancies, strengthen young families, and create brighter futures for their children. The pregnancy centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) listed on the website provide supportive services to expecting mothers."

— HHS Press Secretary Emily Hilliard

Additional Resources on Moms.gov

The website also includes:

  • Nutritional guidance resources
  • Links to establish $1,000 "Trump accounts" for children

These additions coincide with broader Republican-led cuts to family support programs.
