Federal immigration agents held a 19-year-old Bronx man at gunpoint, violently tackling and handcuffing him before realizing they had arrested the wrong person, according to a video of the incident.
Jeury Concepcion, 19, told NBC New York he was victimized by a wrongful immigration arrest in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx earlier this week. In the video, a masked federal agent is seen running toward Concepcion with a drawn gun. Concepcion stopped and remained calm as additional masked agents arrived in an unmarked vehicle.
Two officers then forced him to the ground, while a third agent rushed in to place him in handcuffs as he lay facedown on the sidewalk. Another agent, wearing an ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) vest, kept bystanders away. Cellphone footage showed Concepcion bleeding from his head as he was loaded into the ICE vehicle.
During the ride, agents finally asked Concepcion to show identification and his cellphone. Only then did they realize their mistake. Concepcion, who was born and raised in New York, said he was dropped off at an unfamiliar park and later reunited with his mother, who took him to the hospital where he required four stitches. He also reported suffering a concussion and visible cuts and bruises to his face.
In a separate incident in Norwood, ICE agents chased and tackled another man, who the agency claims is an undocumented immigrant. A video of that encounter has also been circulating online.
Outrage Over ICE Enforcement Tactics
This incident has intensified criticism of President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies. Speaking at a security conference in Phoenix on Tuesday, White House border czar Tom Homan threatened to "flood" New York City with ICE officers. Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has vowed to pass new protections for immigrants in response to the crackdown.
