Before the NFL Draft began, Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy was widely regarded as a first-round talent. However, his name went uncalled not only in Round 1 but also in Rounds 2 and 3.
As Day Three of the draft approaches, McCoy remains undrafted, with teams now considering him for a potential selection in Round 4. The shift in his draft outlook stems from lingering concerns about a knee injury that has significantly impacted his stock.
In 2024, McCoy earned second-team All-American honors. However, his 2025 college football season was wiped out after he tore his ACL during an offseason workout. Despite the injury, he was expected to make a full recovery and be ready for his rookie season. McCoy participated in Tennessee’s Pro Day, where he appeared to be in top physical condition.
Last week, reports surfaced that NFL team doctors have raised concerns about McCoy’s knee. Specifically, they worry he may require a second surgery to address a bone plug for a cartilage defect in his knee. If this procedure does not go as planned, there is a risk McCoy may never fully recover.
While a team is likely to take a chance on McCoy during Saturday’s draft, his NFL future now appears far less certain. The knee injury casts a long shadow over what was once a promising prospect’s career.
