Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, mocked former President Donald Trump’s trip to China and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a segment on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Fallon joked that Trump views himself and Xi as “dictators with benefits,” referencing a comment reportedly made during their discussions.
“At one point, they toured Beijing’s historic Temple of Heaven,” Fallon told his NBC audience. “It’s much different than Trump’s Temple of Heaven, which is a tanning bed inside a ball pit of McNuggets.”
He displayed a photo of the actual Temple of Heaven, noting its grand staircase, and quipped about Trump’s reaction:
“Trump saw those stairs and was like, ‘You got to be kidding me, bud! I’m getting a nosebleed. Jesus H. Ping, that’s a lot of stairs!’”
Fallon later referenced Xi’s remarks about U.S.-China relations, highlighting a statement on stability:
“President Xi talked about a future where China and the U.S. can work together. First with President Trump and eventually with President Spencer Pratt.”
He continued:
“Both leaders sat down for a two-hour meeting, and President Xi said that U.S.-China relations will be defined by ‘stability.’ Yeah, because when you think of Trump, you think stability.”
Fallon also highlighted Xi’s call for partnership over rivalry:
“President Xi said that the U.S. and China should be partners, not rivals. Trump took it a step further and said, ‘I think of us as dictators with benefits.’”
The host then referenced Trump’s plan to issue 250 pardons in 2023, marking America’s 250th anniversary:
“Trump said, ‘Not to worry, they’re all turkeys.’”
Fallon closed the segment with an impression of Trump, delivering the jokes with his signature comedic flair.
