A powerful explosion that shook Simi Valley, California, and sent a towering plume of smoke over the hills was no accident—it was part of a special-effects sequence for the upcoming Jackass sequel, according to Johnny Knoxville.
The blast occurred near the Simi Dog Park on a Friday, prompting speculation among locals. Knoxville confirmed the incident on social media the following day, sharing details about the dramatic scene.
An Instagram user posted a video of the smoke, to which Knoxville responded:
"Apparently people thought a plane had crashed yesterday in Simi Valley. Little did they know it was from a monstrous explosion @jemfxpopov created for us for the final day ever of ‘Jackass’ filming. We were standing near the explosion and couldn’t believe what we were seeing."
KTLA reported that large-scale special effects are common in Simi Valley due to the proximity of the Big Sky Movie Ranch. Knoxville did not specify the stunt associated with the explosion, and it remains unclear whether authorities were contacted about the incident.
The explosion marked the final day of filming for the Jackass sequel, with Knoxville describing it as going "out with a bang." The film is scheduled for release on June 26.
