Falcons president of football Matt Ryan remains uncertain about the team’s quarterback situation heading into training camp this summer, but he has a clear vision for one of the offseason additions: wide receiver Jahan Dotson.
Dotson signed with the Falcons as a free agent after recording 37 receptions over two seasons with the Eagles. His production follows a stretch of underwhelming results since being drafted in the first round by Washington in 2022. The move to Atlanta was not widely seen as a major upgrade, especially with Atlanta’s offense already featuring standout players like Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson.
During a Monday appearance on 680 The Fan, Ryan emphasized Dotson’s potential, suggesting the receiver has more to offer than he has shown in his first four NFL seasons.
"Of course, you've got to have these premier players. But if you're going to be successful long-term and you're going to be consistent year in and year out, depth is paramount. So when you add a guy like Jahan Dotson, who I'm excited about, I think there’s untapped potential with him. And some of it is just the situations he was in early on and some of the places that he was. So, excited about what he can do."
The Falcons bolstered their receiving corps further by signing Olamide Zaccheaus and drafting Zachariah Branch in the third round. Dotson will need to distinguish himself in practice to validate Ryan’s praise before the season kicks off.
