Melissa McCarthy’s Secret Cameo on ‘Law & Order: SVU’: A Hilarious Surprise for Mariska Hargitay

Melissa McCarthy, known for her comedic timing and improvisational skills, orchestrated a delightful surprise for her friend and co-star Mariska Hargitay on the set of Law & Order: SVU. Dressed as an elderly woman, McCarthy managed to sneak onto the set undetected, keeping her cameo a secret until the moment of filming.

In an Instagram video posted on Thursday, McCarthy shared the behind-the-scenes details of her prank. She revealed her plan to surprise Hargitay, who stars as Detective Olivia Benson in the long-running series.

“It’s 6 a.m. We are on our way to ‘SVU’ to surprise Mariska; she does not know we’re coming and doing a little part in it today, everyone has been sneaking around behind boss lady’s back lovingly,” McCarthy explained in the video, fully made up in her elderly disguise.

“I didn’t want her to see me coming in and ruin the surprise … but I can’t wait to see if it works,” she added.

The plan worked perfectly. After arriving at the studio in disguise, McCarthy changed into her wardrobe for the episode and walked onto the set, catching Hargitay completely off guard.

“Holy mother of Christ! Are you f—king kidding me? Oh my God, you didn’t tell me?” Hargitay exclaimed as they embraced.

“You’re very hard to trick,” McCarthy replied with a laugh.

“I can’t believe it,” Hargitay responded, still in shock.

The two actresses then playfully reenacted a scene from the episode, with Hargitay’s character, Olivia Benson, arresting McCarthy’s character.

“I’m going to ask you to turn around,” Hargitay said.

“Gladly,” McCarthy replied. “I’ve been thinking about this for years. I would not be a good prisoner.”

Following the video’s release, Hargitay took to the comments section to express her delight, calling the surprise “worth the wait.” The heartwarming and humorous interaction between the two actresses quickly became a highlight for fans of the show.
