The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix will get underway earlier than planned this Sunday due to incoming severe weather. Forecasts predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain late in the afternoon prompted race officials to adjust the schedule to ensure safety and race completion.

On Saturday night, following the qualifying session, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Formula One Management (FOM), and Miami Grand Prix organizers announced the start time would be moved up by three hours. The race is now set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, May 4, 2026.

The decision was made to "ensure the maximum possible window to complete the Grand Prix in the best conditions and to [prioritize] the safety of drivers, fans, teams and staff," according to the official statement.

Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the current leader in the Drivers’ Championship, secured pole position for Sunday’s race. The 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 four-time Drivers’ Champion Max Verstappen will start alongside him on the front row.

Weather conditions have been a major topic of discussion all week, with drivers and teams closely monitoring updates. The adjusted start time aims to mitigate risks associated with the forecasted storms while maximizing the opportunity to complete the race under favorable conditions.
