Microsoft Edge’s Copilot AI Now Scans All Open Tabs
Microsoft is enhancing its Edge browser with a new Copilot AI feature that aggregates and analyzes information from every open tab. This update allows the AI chatbot to provide more comprehensive responses by pulling data from multiple browser windows simultaneously.
How the New Copilot Feature Works
When initiating a conversation with Copilot, users can now:
- Ask questions about content across all open tabs
- Compare products viewed in different tabs
- Summarize articles or documents open in the browser
- Receive consolidated answers based on tab content
Microsoft stated in its announcement:
"Select which experiences you want or leave off the ones you don't."
Changes to Copilot Mode
The company is also retiring Copilot Mode, a previous feature that similarly accessed tab data but included advanced capabilities like booking reservations on behalf of users. Microsoft has integrated these agentic features into the new Copilot update, streamlining functionality.
Availability and User Control
The new tab-scanning feature is part of Microsoft’s ongoing AI enhancements for Edge. Users will have the flexibility to enable or disable specific Copilot experiences based on their preferences.
