MicroStrategy, now rebranded as Strategy, is on track to own more Bitcoin than Satoshi Nakamoto by September 2026, provided Michael Saylor maintains its recent purchasing pace.

As of its latest SEC filing, Strategy holds 815,061 BTC, with Saylor acquiring 34,164 BTC in a single week—a record for 2026—at an average price of $74,395 per coin.

Bitcoin Holdings: Strategy vs. Satoshi

Satoshi Nakamoto’s estimated Bitcoin holdings total 1.1 million BTC, with Arkham Intelligence attributing 1,096,354 BTC to the Bitcoin creator. Strategy is currently 281,293 BTC short of this figure.

At its current pace, Strategy could close this gap in 101 trading days (approximately 147 calendar days).

Recent Purchase Acceleration

Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation has accelerated by 40% over the last four weeks, averaging 2,800 BTC per trading day. Year-to-date through April 19, the company has purchased 142,561 BTC for $11.13 billion across 73 trading days, averaging 1,953 BTC per day.

The trailing four-week average (March 23–April 19) saw Strategy acquire 52,962 BTC in 19 trading days, a significant increase from its Q1 pace.

Funding Strategy’s Bitcoin Buys

Strategy funds its Bitcoin purchases through ATM offerings of MSTR common stock and preferred shares (STRC, STRK, STRF, STRD). As of April 19, the company has raised $11.34 billion this year, with:

  • MSTR common stock: $5.77 billion (50.8%)
  • STRC preferred: $5.57 billion (49.1%)
  • STRK preferred: $3.4 million
  • STRF and STRD preferreds: $0

STRC preferred has been the primary driver of recent Bitcoin acquisitions, with Strategy likening it to a high-yield bank alternative.

Saylor’s ‘Second Century’ Push

In early March, Saylor announced the start of Strategy’s “Second Century,” marking the company’s 100th Bitcoin purchase since 2020. Since then, Strategy has acquired an additional 76,330 BTC in just six weeks.

Projected Timeline to Surpass Satoshi

Extrapolating Strategy’s 2026 average purchase rate through November 13, 2025 suggests the company could surpass Satoshi’s holdings by that date. However, trading days are adjusted for market holidays, with roughly 21 trading days per month.
