Netflix has extended its streaming partnership with the NFL, ensuring its rights agreement now runs through the 2029-30 season. The revised deal, reported by Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal, matches the term lengths currently held by Fox, CBS, NBC, Prime Video, and YouTube.

Netflix first secured NFL broadcast rights in 2024, acquiring a pair of Christmas games. This year, the streamer will expand its coverage to five games, including:

  • The Week 1 matchup between the 49ers and Rams, held in Australia
  • The first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game

The extension safeguards Netflix’s Christmas fixtures, ensuring they remain exclusive even if other broadcast partners renegotiate deals that might otherwise encroach on its streaming territory. However, it remains uncertain whether the three additional games scheduled for 2026 are included in the new four-year agreement.

While Netflix has repeatedly stated it does not seek a full-season package, these commitments are not legally binding. Industry observers note that the current arrangement could serve as a strategic move to prevent other broadcasters from viewing Netflix as a serious competitor for weekly game rights until it’s too late to adjust.
