OpenAI has officially launched Daybreak, a new AI initiative designed to detect and patch software vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. The system leverages the Codex Security AI agent, which was introduced in March 2024, to analyze an organization's codebase and identify potential attack vectors.
Daybreak's capabilities include:
- Creating a threat model based on the organization's code.
- Focusing on possible attack paths to anticipate vulnerabilities.
- Validating likely weaknesses in the system.
- Automating the detection of higher-risk vulnerabilities for immediate remediation.
The launch of Daybreak comes just over a month after Anthropic unveiled Claude Mythos, a rival security-focused AI model. Anthropic claimed that Claude Mythos was too dangerous for public release and instead distributed it privately as part of its Project Glasswing initiative.
