OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT’s capabilities by allowing users to securely link their bank accounts to the AI chatbot. The new feature, announced in preview on May 29, 2025, integrates ChatGPT with Plaid, a financial data platform used by 12,000+ institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, and Capital One.

In its announcement, OpenAI highlighted that over 200 million people already turn to ChatGPT monthly for financial guidance, from budgeting advice to spending reduction tips. With this update, users can now connect their financial accounts to receive a comprehensive view of their finances directly within ChatGPT.

OpenAI emphasized the security of the integration, stating that connections are made through Plaid’s secure infrastructure, which already powers financial data sharing for millions of users. The feature is designed to provide personalized financial insights while maintaining user privacy and data protection.

The announcement follows OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance ChatGPT’s utility beyond general knowledge queries, positioning the AI as a more integrated tool for everyday financial management.
